Becoming an Operator (OP) on Your Hytale Server

The Operator (OP) status gives you full control over your Hytale server. As an admin, you can manage players, modify the world, execute advanced commands, and maintain order on your server.

This guide presents 3 methods to obtain administrator permissions.

Method 1: Through the Control Panel Console

This is the most common and simplest method if you are using a server host (Apex Hosting, Aternos, Nodecraft, etc.).

Steps

  1. Log in to your control panel of your host
  2. Select your Hytale server
  3. Click on the Console tab in the sidebar menu
  4. In the command line, type:
    op add <YourUsername>

  5. Press Enter

Example

op add MyUsername123

If the command is successful, you will see a confirmation message:

"MyUsername123 is now an operator!"

⚠️ Important: Pay attention to the exact case of your Hytale username.

Method 2: In-Game with Commands

If you are already connected to the server (or if you have local access), you can use commands directly in the game chat.

Option A: Self-Assign OP Rights

Type in the chat:

/op self

This command immediately grants you administrator privileges.

Option B: Grant OP Rights to Another Player

If you are already OP, you can promote other players:

/op add <PlayerName>

Option C: Remove OP Rights

To revoke a player's permissions:

/op remove <PlayerName>

💡 Tip: Type /help in-game to see the complete list of available admin commands.

Method 3: Through the Configuration File

For finer control over permissions, you can directly modify the server's configuration file.

Steps

  1. Stop your server before making any changes
  2. Go to the Config Files section of your panel
  3. Open the permissions.json file (or "Hytale Server Permissions")
  4. Add or modify entries for players and their permission levels
  5. Save the file
  6. Restart your server

File Structure

The permissions.json file contains players and their associated permission groups. Operators are typically listed with a high permission level.

⚠️ Warning: Only modify this file if you know what you are doing. A syntax error can prevent the server from starting correctly.

Essential Commands for Administrators

Once OP, here are the main commands to know:

Command Description
/stop Stops the server cleanly
/backup Forces an immediate backup
/kick <player> Kicks a player (can reconnect)
/ban <player> Bans a player permanently
/unban <player> Unbans a player
/heal Restores health and stamina
/give <item> Gives an item
/auth status Checks the server's authentication status

Security Tips

  • 🔒 Only grant OP status to trusted individuals — An operator has full control over the server
  • 📋 Consider using permission plugins for more granular control over rights
  • 💾 Make regular backups before granting new privileges
  • 📝 Keep a log of players with OP status

Troubleshooting

Problem: The /op command does not work

Solutions:

  • Check that you are using the correct syntax (op add and not just op)
  • Ensure that the username is spelled correctly
  • Check the server logs for any errors

Problem: Admin commands are not recognized

Solution: Some commands come from mods (like Admin-UI). Ensure that the required mods are installed on both the server and client
